With the vest, sleeves and trousers finally out of the way, I can turn my attention to the smaller pieces on Daredevil's suit. First on my list is the belt.
This was really easy to make; it consists of 4 pieces of fabric that I cut out, finished around the edges and sewed together. The black part of the belt is then sewed onto the front of the vest (because it isn't a functional belt anyway, so this allows me to reduce the number of separate pieces on the suit.)
I then added 2 snap fasteners to the back of the belt; they are sew-on snaps, but I used contact cement to fix them into place for an extra secure hold!
To recreate the buckles, I used 2mm craft foam which I sealed with my heat gun. I did a quick test beforehand and this actually makes the foam moderately water resistant, which I was super happy about!
Next, I cut out a strip of black fabric to be added between the two buckles. After finishing the edges, I threaded the strap through the buckles and sewed it onto the belt (before hot gluing the buckles into place.) Finally, I cut a slot behind the outer buckle holes, threaded the ends of the strap through them and sewed these to the back of the belt.
All that remains is to add the 2 hexagonal nuts, but I'm going to add all the hardware once the entire suit is completed. Overall this was a really quick and simple piece to build, and I managed to finish it in a day (which was a massive relief after the vest/sleeves/trousers which all took at least a week each!)
