With the start of a brand new year - decade, even! - I've decided to seriously rethink my approach to cosplay. Last year, I made the mistake of constantly worrying what my next project would be, and there was a period where my focus was entirely on making as many cosplays as possible, as cheaply as possible, as quickly as possible (I think at one point I had about 20 cosplans!) This mindset led to me having a couple of cosplays which only took 1 or 2 weeks to knock out and as a result looked like zero effort had gone into them - because it had!
In 2020 I need to learn to take my time and place more emphasis on quality over quantity.
With this in mind, I want to focus on characters who mean a lot to me or who I relate to in some way - rather than just whoever looks cool - which will free up more of my time and money to make each cosplay as awesome as possible!! I'm also really excited to be learning new skills and trying out new techniques; my goal is to learn at least one new skill with every costume this year, so that I don't end up repeating the same processes over and over.
And so, without further ado, here are my cosplans for 2020:
- The Amazing Spider-Man
- Daredevil seasons 1 & 3 (I started collecting a few bits and pieces for a pair of Daredevil season 1 and 3 cosplays around halfway through last year, so it would be awesome to finally finish them off!)
- The Raggedy Doctor
I've given a great deal of thought to all of these cosplays; each one has a specific reason behind it and so I can't wait to bring them all to life!! I also want to focus on more prop building this year (and after seeing The Rise of Skywalker earlier this week, the Star Wars bug has hit hard!) so expect to see more of that in the coming months as well..... I'm thinking a couple of new lightsabers, maybe a droid, definitely an Iron Man helmet...
And finally, here are my New Year's Resolutions for cosplay....
- Focus on quality over quantity!
- Attend more cons (this one is really important!!)
- Take more photos of me actually wearing my cosplays!😛 (Rather than just the usual "layout" photos that I post on Instagram all of the time)
This has been another rambling post, but I hope at least some of it has been interesting! I can't wait to bring more cosplay and prop content to you all as we enter this brand new decade!
